The Study and Knowledge of the development of future energy demand of the European Union's Industry based on in depths analysis of the technological structure of different industrial branches, is crucial to take measures in order to improve the efficiency of energy consumption and for reducing greenhouse gases. Fraunhofer ISI has developed a model for the evaluation of technical energy saving options and to build alternative scenarios for the future energy demand of the sectors. The past modelling work lay on electricity consuming technologies and their saving potentials in the main energy intensive processes but it does not cover the low-temperature heat consumption. Therefore, this book assess how much and how is low temperature heat used in the European industries, identifies promising technologies to further improve energy efficiency, and quantify the long-term energy saving potentials and reduction of CO2 emissions by the integration of solar thermal technologies in the European food industrial processes using the model. The analysis should help a broad readership who are working on the application of energy efficiency technologies in different industrial processes.
Against the background of population aging the central question of this thesis is the future development of people with dementia in Germany. Prevalences, incidence rates, co-morbidity and risk factors of dementia are calculated as basis for projection scenarios. Several assumptions of the life expectancy and dementia incidence were combined in multi-state projections. Results of the future number of people with dementia in 2050 range from 2.0 to 3.3 million. Also the costs of dementia, one of the most expensive diseases, were projected.
There is a persistent myth in our culture that in order to lead a fulfilling life we must pursue happiness at all times. In her groundbreaking work, Emily Esfahani Smith explains that it is actually the search for meaning that will bring fulfilment. She argues that meaning is all around us in vast untapped resources, and that the key is finding it in the right here, right now. Her inspiring TED Talk on the same topic has been viewed hundreds of thousands of times. To explore how we can change our lives for the better, she draws on the latest research in psychology, sociology, philosophy and neuroscience, as well as insights from figures in literature and history such as George Eliot, Viktor Frankl, Aristotle and the Buddha. She shows us how cultivating connections to others, identifying and working toward a purpose, telling stories about our place in the world, and seeking out mystery, can immeasurably deepen our lives. To do this she visits remarkable people and places, such as a tight-knit fishing village in the Chesapeake Bay, a dinner where young people gather to share their experiences of profound loss, and a drug kingpin who finds his purpose in helping people get fit. She explores how we might begin to build a culture that leaves space for introspection and awe, cultivates a sense of community, and imbues our lives with meaning.

In this wide-ranging re-interpretation of American constitutional history, legal scholar Bruce Ackerman finds a vital source of renewal and strength in the "dualist" character of the American democratic tradition. He examines the transforming impact of popular movements on higher law, and reveals how these exercises in constitutional politics differ from the normal politics practised by the elected representatives. Planned as the first of three volumes, this book aims to put the Reagan revolution into constitutional perspective and to redefine America's civic commitments for the future. It cuts through the search for the "original intent of the founders" as a way to discover the will of the people, and recognizes that the great and extraordinary occasions required for action by the people have not been confined to a single instance in the 18th century.

As the pace of war increased, the Sparrow was called from one crisis to another - and when the great fleets of Britain and France convened on the Chesapeake, Bolitho had to throw aside the early dreams of his first command to find maturity in a sea battle that might decide the fate of a whole continent.

At the beginning of Viking Bay, our heroine, Kay Hamilton, finds herself once again in need of a job--going rogue on the Olivera case in Rosarito Beach didn't make her a lot of friends in DEA. But an unexpected source tempts her to move back east and begin working for the Callahan Group, a mysterious shadow government agency whose motives are not entirely clear. For her first mission, Kay is let in on only a few concrete facts: The U.S. government has a keen interest in Sahid Khan, an Afghani governor, becoming the next president of his country. Khan's daughter, Ara--a beautiful, Western-educated former party girl--happens to be quite involved in her father's career and could be the crucial factor in his political decisions. And Hamilton is just the undercover agent to discover Ara's secrets and sway her decision to correspond with the Pentagon's needs. But when things go horribly wrong on a routine trip to Afghanistan, Hamilton is suddenly at the epicenter of an international plot whose players are shrouded in enigmas, and questioning the motives of the very people she's working for. Suspenseful, fast-paced, and endlessly entertaining, Viking Bay is the tremendously thrilling sequel to Rosarito Beach and a gripping stand-alone novel.
Saving in general and portfolio behaviour in particular remains a complicated and only partly understood issue even after decades of intensive and excellent research. A major difficulty is that saving and portfolio diversification is a forward-looking activity and involves household'' formation of expectations about future developments in an uncertain future. It is not only future income from labour and capital or the expected lifetime of the household members that has to be anticipated. The saving rate, especially that of households in each contry, is the result of a multitude of factor ranging from demographic characteristics to those influencing individual households in different ways. This study has tried to discuss some of those determinants affecting the diversification and saving behaviour of the households.
