A study was carried out to analyze the chemical composition antioxidant content and activity of little millet landraces. Totally 92 little millet landraces were procured from the farmers of different districts of Karnataka i.e., Dharwad, Haveri and Chitradurga, grown in the year 2007-09. Based on locality moisture, fat and ash varied significantly, where as for protein and fiber no significant difference was found. The moisture content among the landraces vaied from 4.37 to 5.73 percent. The protein content ranged from 7.24 to 7.81 percent. Fat content was highest in millets collected from Jekinkatti (4.78%) and least was observed in Shishunal (2.93%). Ash content varied from 1.52 to 4.87 per cent. The ?-tocopherol content of little millet landraces varied significantly among the millet samples and values ranged between 1.75 to 5.43 mg/100g. Polyphenol content varied significantly among the decorticated grains and in bran. Bran contained higher amount of polyphenol compared to decorticated grains.In the whole grains, the zinc, copper, manganese and iron contents ranged from 0.24 to 0.50 mg/100g, 0.24 to 0.58 mg/100g, 0.08 to 0.16 mg/100g and 1.28 to 3.05 mg/100g respectively.

The goal of this study was to screen different extracts of medicinal plants for their phenolics profile and antioxidant activities. Antiradical properties of the plant extracts were compared using stable DPPH•. Generally, ethanolic extracts had the strongest antiradical activities followed by ethyl acetate and finally hexane extracts. The ethanolic extracts of different plants were also markedly effective in inhibiting the oxidation of linoleic acid and the subsequent bleaching of ?-carotene in comparison with the control. The content of phenolic compounds (mg/g) in different extracts expressed in gallic acid equivalents (GAE), varied between 1.2 and 15.3. In all plant samples ethanolic extracts contained the highest levels of total phenolics and total flavonoids followed by ethyl acetate extracts and finally hexane extracts. The results are important for using those plants in different food and pharmaceutical applications.
Ziziphus jujuba is the most commonly grown fruit in Pakistan, having essential oil that can be utilized for the purposes of preservation like jujuboside and other flavoniides. In Pakistan it is used for the treatment of ulcers, wounds, eye diseases and bronchitis. Antioxidants are naturally occurring or synthetic substances which prevent oxidation or chemical reaction involving oxygen. The main focus of this investigation was to study the chemical constituents, antioxidant activity and phytochemicals present in the Ziziphus jujuba L. The results indicated that different extracts fractions from methanol, n-hexane, ethyl acetate and chloroform ranges from 20 to 100% concentration indicated that noticeable antioxidant properties were present in jujuba species that were determined by spectrophotometric techniques. The maximum antioxidant properties were observed in 100% chloroform and in M3 (60% methanol and 40% chloroform) and minimum were analyzed in E1 (20% ethyl acetate and 80% n-hexane) and M1 (20% methanol and 80% chloroform). The extraction techniques and extracting solvent were of great importance in this study that showed the extractability of various solvent.
The administration of antioxidants (ascorbic acid, ?- tocopherol, N-acetylcysteine and L-methionine) should be mandatory in workers before exposure to lead. - Individuals should take supplements with antioxidants in amounts that are of recommended dietary allowance values. As safety guidance, tolerable upper intake levels have been established by the Food and Nutrition Board, Institute of Medicine, at 1000 mg for ?- tocopherol (vitamin E) and 2000 mg for ascorbic acid (vitamin C) in adults. - Advise caregivers to provide adequate intake of vitamin C. For children about the age of 6 months and older, they should be provided twice daily with food rich in vitamin C preferably with meals, as a way of improving their iron absorption.
It could be concluded that organic Se supplementation to Japanese quail breeders for 8 weeks, either at 16 or 40 weeks of age, has a beneficial effect on their productive performance and this was reflected on their progeny. Since, the growth performance, thyroid gland activity and immune-response could be improved in progeny by organic Se feeding to parental stock. Therefore, the data obtained from our trial suggest the selenium inclusion more than 1.0 mg/kg, from selenium yeast of maternal quail diets, to improve the physiological, immunological and productive traits of their progeny for several days.

The main objective of this study was to characterize the antioxidant properties of Australian-grown ‘Wonderful’ pomegranate juice (WPJ) in comparison to those reported in the literature and imported pomegranate juices (IPJs). Total phenolic compounds (TPC) and antioxidant (AA) activity in the WPJ were found to be 2,400±200 mg/L GAE (Gallic acid equivalent) and 11±1 TEAC (Trolox® equivalent antioxidant capacity), respectively. While four brands of IPJs showed TPC levels in the range of 1,000-2,800 mg/L GAE and AA range of 5.5-14.5 TEAC. In an attempt to further improve the TPC levels in fresh juice different parts of the fruit were used for juice extraction using six different extraction methods. The extracted juices showed different yield, colour, soluble solids, titratable acidity, TPC and antioxidant levels. To further facilitate the consumers’ access to the health benefits of pomegranate, probiotic yoghurt supplemented with different levels of WPJ concentrate (50 ?Brix) was developed. The maximum level of supplementation without adversely affecting product attributes and probiotic count was 6 % while maintaining maximum antioxidant activity in the product during its shelf life.
