Application of corona discharge in off-gas and wastewater treatment includes the basic investigations to model the current/voltage characteristics, ozone generation and UV-radiation with brush type discharge electrodes. This PhD thesis has been a first basic investigation of corona discharge with brush type discharge electrodes. At the beginning of the project, little information about current/voltage characteristics for brush type discharge electrode was available but definitely no modeling. Some information could be transferred from the technology of ozone production. Ozone is among the strong oxidizing reagents and eliminates the various hazardous pollutants from wastewater and off-gas. The wet-tube electrostatic precpitator equiped with brush discharge electrodes can be used for off-gas purification and wastewater treatment simultaneously. This book will be of considerable value to graduate students, science faculty, engineers and professionals working with industry.
This book mainly focuses on the reduction of fresh water consumption and the effluent discharge from the pulp and paper industry. It includes various methods of paper mill wastes. Emphasis is given to the internal recycling of the waste water than to discharge it after an external treatment. This could help to decrease the amount of fresh water, effluent and the BOD load. The recovery of valuable fibers and fillers from the waste water are an added advantage.
